Consulting for systems handling substances hazardous to water

The German Ordinance on Installations for Handling Substances Hazardous to Water (AwSV) regulates the safe handling of substances hazardous to water in Germany. Especially when it comes to plant components such as tanks, containment trays, or piping systems made of plastics like GRP or thermoplastics, the technical and documentation requirements present complex challenges for many operators.

We provide consulting and support in the structured preparation of your documentation and processes – tailored to the requirements of the AwSV as well as the expectations of experts and authorities. Of course, we also take into account relevant European standards and the German Water Resources Act (WHG).

We are happy to support you with the following services:

Consulting on plant classification and documentation requirements
We support you in classifying your installations (external link) according to the AwSV and work with you to determine whether approval or notification requirements apply. In addition, we advise you on the necessary documentation requirements and assist you in preparing for regulatory requirements or inspections by expert assessors.
PED überschneiden. In such cases, we help you identify and coordinate the relevant requirements from both regulatory frameworks. Pressure Equipment Directive (2014/68/EU) overlap. We show you how both regulatory frameworks can be effectively aligned.
On this basis, requirements can be purposefully consolidated and professionally integrated into further planning.

Support in determining material and media resistance
We support you in the structured compilation of evidence for the chemical resistance of GRP and thermoplastic components – tailored to the media used and the specific operating conditions. In doing so, we primarily refer to established sources such as the DIBt media lists or other recognized material data to ensure your technical documentation is traceable and verifiable.
If resistance cannot be conclusively demonstrated using existing data, we assist you in developing an appropriate test plan.
The final assessment is carried out by the responsible experts or within the framework of official procedures.

Support in the design of containment systems
We advise you on deriving and documenting the requirements for containment areas and retention systems. In particular, we support you in structuring relevant assumptions, selecting appropriate design criteria, and clearly presenting the results.

This creates a clear set of requirements that serves as a solid basis for further planning by specialist planners or structural engineers.

Structuring documentation for external experts
A clearly structured documentation significantly facilitates review by experts and authorities. We support you in organizing the content, systematically linking relevant documents, and marking any outstanding issues – enabling external parties to efficiently access the necessary information.
